As VBC carries out its mission to enrich soil health and increase farm productivity and sustainability, each of our members endeavor daily to improve the earth. We are committed 365 days to wastewater treatment, including Earth Day with a theme of Our Power, Our Planet.
We have the power to care for our planet and make the decision to abide by our VBC Code of Good Practice to protect the environment, minimize adverse social impacts, and promote education and awareness.
Municipal wastewater treatment facilities and contract applicators dedicated to the proper treatment and stewardship of biosolids in Virginia commit to the Code of Good Practice, ensuring the protection of public health and the environment. The Code of Good Practice provides a voluntary set of guidelines outlining best practices for producing and managing high-quality biosolids.
Not only do we care for the estimated 36,716 acres in Virginia, or less than 1% of the 7.3 million acres of farmland in Virginia, where biosolids are land applied and regulated by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, our members are deeply engaged in national and state research and education efforts for the benefit of all Virginians.
This Earth Day our commitment, our passion must not waver all the 365 days to enrich the earth around us one farm, forest, landscape, lawn and garden at a time.
