VBC spreads the word about beneficial uses of biosolids at Virginia AG EXPO

August 3 was a beautiful day to meet and talk with hundreds of attendees at the 2023 Virginia AG EXPO at Land of Promise Farms in Virginia Beach. As one of the largest gatherings in the Commonwealth’s agricultural industry, AG EXPO drew a sizeable crowd of farmers, industry leaders, state agencies, vendors, and attendees. All enjoyed numerous learning and networking opportunities. Participants heard from Governor Glenn Youngkin, saw drone demos, and enjoyed checking out the latest in precision agriculture and ag equipment.

The VBC booth drew in many visitors with its poop emoji headband craft – aka “Lil’ Doody.” With a captive audience wielding construction paper, glue sticks and googly eyes, our communications team educated folks on the beneficial uses of biosolids, noting that without the highly regulated processing of “Lil’ Doody” into a soil additive for row crops and flowers, waste would simply pile up in landfills. We distributed information and fact sheets and answered many questions about the application and recycling of biosolids.

AG EXPO also offered VBC the opportunity to talk with many of our industry partners including Virginia Tech AREC staff, HRSD, Virginia Soybean Association, Virginia Grain Producers Association and more. We look forward to continuing this outreach and education next month at the Virginia State Fair – please join us!
